Most of time in the spring was spent working on my third book, tentatively entitled Good Christians are Immaterialists. A work in analytical theology. Making the book accessible has been a worthy challenge!

On 17 November 2013 the class staged a formal public debate. Using 
their historical and western culture skills, the class engaged in 
counter-factual analysis to debate the impact of a Confederate victory 
on the subsequent development of western culture.
 
The Affirmative Team (arguing that a Confederate victory 
would have slowed the development of western culture, left to right): Bo Turney, 
Will Brantley, Atticus O’Brien, Will Lacey, Andrew Gass, Caleb Swiney, and Baker Allen.
The Affirmative team won the debate, but the balloting (submitted by 
judges consisting of HSC students, faculty, staff members, and a few 
members of the community) was very close.
 
The Negative Team (arguing that a Confederate victory 
would not have slowed the development of western culture, left to right): Mitch 
Owens, Alex Trivette, Nathan Knox, Joe Bean, Chris Hawk, and Christian 
Clifton

Phil 285 ‘Political Philosophy: Constitutions.’ An experimental course in philosophy and political economy. The students authored and defended constitutions for the 21st century–and did so brilliantly!

Liesl happy and soaking up the March sun. She has had a good year and was made a quasi-honorary member of UPLS this past fall. She has her own UPLS pin! I am told her speech was ‘astounding.’ 

 

In other news, after 10 years as Ethics Bowl coordinator (with 5 final round appearances and 2 championships for HSC), I handed over the reigns to Prof. Wilson. In 2014 Prof. Wilson took over, leading HSC to more achievements! My thanks to all the Ethics Bowl guys over the years (and years to come).
