Hampden-Sydney held its annual Opening Convocation to welcome the class of 2014, swear in the officers of the student government, and present awards to members of the student body who have excelled in leadership and academics. Two biology majors, DesRaj Clark ’12 and Barron Frazier ’12, received the Samuel S. Jones Phi Beta Kappa Award, which is made possible through the generosity of Sam Jones, a member of the Class of 1943, who endowed the award to recognize intellectual achievement and good citizenship at the College. Clark received the first honor award for having the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA) in the junior class at 3.97, while Frazier received the second honor award for the second-highest GPA in the junior class at 3.96. Congratulations to both!
