{"id":1545,"date":"2015-07-11T12:23:14","date_gmt":"2015-07-11T12:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/?p=1545"},"modified":"2023-09-26T13:30:09","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T13:30:09","slug":"h-sc-students-present-research-at-annual-hhmi-national-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/2015\/07\/11\/h-sc-students-present-research-at-annual-hhmi-national-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"H-SC students present research at annual HHMI national symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every June, representative from institutions participating in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program gather for a student symposium at HHMI&#8217;s Janelia Farm Research Campus in Ashburn, VA. \u00a0Hampden-Sydney has participated in SEA-PHAGES since 2011, with students isolating bacteriophages from the environment and performing molecular and bioinformatic characterization as part of a national project on bacteriophage evolution based out of the University of Pittsburgh. \u00a0This year&#8217;s H-SC student representatives were Joshua Dimmick &#8217;15 and Taylor Meinhardt &#8217;16.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1546\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/07\/IMG_1449.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1546\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1546\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2015\/07\/IMG_1449-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Taylor Meinhardt '16, Joshua Dimmick '15, and.
