{"id":1741,"date":"2016-11-13T10:51:18","date_gmt":"2016-11-13T10:51:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/?p=1741"},"modified":"2023-09-26T13:21:50","modified_gmt":"2023-09-26T13:21:50","slug":"wildlife-biology-class-takes-weekend-trip-to-eastern-shore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/2016\/11\/13\/wildlife-biology-class-takes-weekend-trip-to-eastern-shore\/","title":{"rendered":"Wildlife Biology class takes weekend trip to Eastern Shore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/11\/Class-pic-with-bird-models.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1742\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/11\/Class-pic-with-bird-models-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"class-pic-with-bird-models\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Goodman&#8217;s BIOL 385 Wildlife Biology class took a weekend field trip in October to the Eastern Shore Birding &amp; Wildlife Festival. \u00a0We camped for 2 nights in Kiptopeke State Park and went to workshops in bird identification and bird watching for \u00a0the ornithology portion of the course.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/11\/Campfire-pic.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1743\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/11\/Campfire-pic-300x184.jpg\" alt=\"campfire-pic\" width=\"300\" height=\"184\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Delmarva peninsula is an amazing location for watching birds in the migration season, because birds flying south and funneled to the tip as they attempt to stay over land for as long as possible before crossing water. \u00a0The park we stayed in has a &#8220;Hawk Watch&#8221; there people sight and count birds of prey as they fly unidirectionally overhead- typically they see over 1,000 hawks daily!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/11\/Class-with-binos.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1744\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/biology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2016\/11\/Class-with-binos-300x183.jpg\" alt=\"class-with-binos\" width=\"300\" height=\"183\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In total, we saw and heard 40 species of birds (and some bottle-nosed dolphins).
