The sanctuary was not a city but a religious precinct, drawing athletes, spectators, and pilgrims from across the Greek world, and a sacred truce was observed among warring city-states so that all could travel safely to attend. The site is covered here in three parts: the Sacred Precinct (Altis), the walled sanctuary containing the great Temple of Zeus and other religious buildings; the Site of Olympia outside the Altis, including the athletic training facilities and stadium; and the Olympia Museum, home to the temple&#8217;s spectacular sculptures and other finds from the site.
