Spring 2022
Being back since my Spring Break in March has been a crazy past month. Our in-person classes have ended, so that we can prepare for final exams and papers. The London School of Economics basically gives its students weeks off to study for finals in May and June. This has been very refreshing because it has given me ample time to revise and reframe for the papers and finals. Instead of having to balance class and work like we normally must do at Sydney, I have been able to relax and learn the material and retain more of it. Hopefully, these finals will be my best yet!
I was able to go with the LSE Fencing Club to the elite Lansdowne Club again to fence their team. It was a blast being able to go with the team to this event and watch some amazing matches in their impressive facility. It is always fun getting to go to new places and meeting new people who are passionate and enthusiastic about fencing.
During the final week of March, I was able to attend two events at the Carlton Club and the Athletic Union Sports Ball. While I was not able to attend the Black-tie event on campus, it was nice to have a couple of formal events to go to this term. It was sad to say farewell to the sports teams, but all good things must come to an end. Looking back on it, I know it is a blessing to not have to worry about practice and competitions while studying for finals.
Queen Elizabeth turned 96 a couple of weeks ago. I cannot wait to see what they do for her 70th Jubilee. They really celebrate her birthday the first week of June. I am excited to see what happens to the city and how it comes alive to honor her.
This past week it was my 21st birthday. While in Europe, the 21st birthday is not as big of a deal in the US, but it was still a great time. My mother flew in from Florida, which was a welcome surprise given with COVID – I did not know if my family was going to be able to come and visit me here. It has been great seeing her and spending time with her. I enjoyed a week on my mom’s budget instead of my student budget. Thanks mom! Studying abroad is wonderful, but it is nice being able to see family.
Well, I am back to studying, I hope everyone is doing well. Until next time! Franz Gilbert II
