{"id":2250,"date":"2020-07-31T18:59:43","date_gmt":"2020-07-31T18:59:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/international\/?p=2250"},"modified":"2021-06-14T17:25:28","modified_gmt":"2021-06-14T17:25:28","slug":"july-notes-from-the-director","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.hsc.edu\/international\/2020\/07\/31\/july-notes-from-the-director\/","title":{"rendered":"July 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"2250\" class=\"elementor elementor-2250\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-3ddfdd7 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"3ddfdd7\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-9e6af40\" data-id=\"9e6af40\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a0ce7b9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a0ce7b9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Dr. Daniella Widdows<br>Director of Global Education and Study Abroad<br>July 31, 2020<\/p>\n<p>Returning to campus after completing a Global Ed program?&nbsp; Even though due to Covid-19 you have likely been home for several months now, returning to H-SC may be a strange adjustment.&nbsp; Campus is going to look and feel different this year, and not only because you have been studying off the hill.&nbsp; That said, here are some tips and resources returners often find helpful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Build on the new<\/strong>:&nbsp; Keep in touch with the friends and mentors you gained.&nbsp; Join LinkedIn groups that speak to your new connections and interests.&nbsp; Keep up with the media (news, movies, music, etc.) made in or about your host location.&nbsp; Continue practicing the language or new hobbies you started.&nbsp; Learn to cook a few dishes from your host location or order treats from international sources online.&nbsp; Explore local communities, themed restaurants, film series, etc. in Virginia.&nbsp; (Need help finding resources?&nbsp; Just ask!)<br><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reconnect with H-SC:<\/strong> &nbsp;Your close friends and family have no doubt heard a lot about your time away already, but your professors and other friends and mentors here at H-SC would love to hear from you as well.&nbsp; &nbsp;What did you learn?&nbsp; What did you enjoy?&nbsp; What did you miss about being on campus?&nbsp; What do you miss now?&nbsp; What pictures do you have to share?&nbsp; What new things are you interested in exploring now that you&#8217;re back?&nbsp; And, don\u2019t forget, if your campus friends\/roommates no longer seem interested, Ms. Wright and I are always eager to enthuse with you!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Encourage others to consider a Global Ed program<\/strong>: &nbsp;There are lots of ways to help out and returners are the best advocates!&nbsp; Write an article for <a href=\"mailto:newspaper@hsc.edu\">The Tiger<\/a>.&nbsp; Organize a returners tailgate group at a sports event.
