Welcome, everyone, to the 2022-23 year — and a special welcome back to our 2021-22 abroaders!  Last year we had dozens of students study abroad, 6 during the academic year and the rest on summer programs.  Our top-attended location was the United Kingdom, with Germany and Spain following.  In addition, students studied in Argentina, France, Greece, and Latvia.  Be sure to read the blog posts linked above to get a sense of their adventures.

We have a busy events schedule this fall.  Mark your calendars now for the following:

The summer is here in full swing and many are eager to travel now that some restrictions are being lightened.  Indeed, we have four students studying abroad this summer in Greece, Italy, and Spain.  Be sure to check out the blog posts (link above) from two of them: Taylor McGee (now in Spain) and Zac Richman (heading to Italy in July).

A big welcome to our new, incoming students this fall!  I look forward to meeting you this week and next during summer orientation.  Do stop by during the afternoon Open House hours (2-4 pm) and say hello.

And as you shape your goals and dreams for the future, here are two great examples of alumni reflecting on how studying abroad as a student expanded their horizons — and opportunities! — after graduation and later in life:

    1. Glen Carter II ’08: studied abroad in Argentina
    2. Brian Grogan ’73: studied abroad in France

Welcome to 2021!  It’s a brand new year, and here in the Global Ed office we are looking forward to a return to student travel.  It will take some time before everything rebounds fully, but once the vaccines are more available, I’m confident we’ll see even more students requesting appointments or stopping by he Global Ed office (now in Blake A!) to discuss program options.

But first, a look back to December and the winners of our first ever photo contest! Our thanks to all who participated: 14 contestants, 31 photos across 5 categories, and 75 voters.  Hearty congratulations to each category’s winner: Linda Davis, Jachchi Burford, Brendan Dunning, Anthony Vinson, and Caleb Manu!
