Chi Phi

Lancaster Brown (b. 1893, d. 1985), son of Stokes Brown, worked as a boarding house waiter and a butler for the Chi Phi fraternity. He later owned and operated a small general store between Hampden-Sydney and the Mercy Seat community. Lancaster married Victoria Bentley in 1925, and the couple raised their nephew, William Bentley, as well as Danny Morton. Lancaster served in the U.S. Army during World War I, and is buried in the Mercy Seat Baptist Church cemetery. Today, Lancaster’s property is owned by Danny Morton and wife Vicky.

A marker recognizing Lancaster Brown's work lays just in front of the Chi Phi steps.

Epsilon ’07. There is a plaque dedicated to Lancaster Brown at the front steps to the Chi Phi House. Our chapter historian may have some records that might help expand this biography.
