Temple of Asklepios Building Complex detail

The Sanctuary of Asklepios, god of healing, was established on the South Slope of the Acropolis in 419/18 BC, after the cult was brought from Epidavros in the wake of the great plague of Athens. The complex included a small temple, an altar, and a stoa where the sick could sleep in hopes of a healing dream from the god, a practice known as incubation.
